Hi Friends, thank you for the beautiful birthday wishes! I’m 44 and feeling better than I have in at least 13 years overall. Grateful for many of you who have noticed that Jiyu and I have taken a little break from social media lately. We are blissfully hibernating at home and preparing to launch our new online studio as soon as we can get everything together! Hope to see all of you from around the world on screen soon :)

Happy solstice, friends! Hoping for clear skies to see the Jupiter-Saturn mega-star tonight. This is my art project for neurobiology class, a mandala of the thousand-headed serpent, Adishesha.

My new sunrise routine: Gaga dance, getting “silly” and “groovy” to start the day. So liberating to explore different ways of moving and to allow new awareness to trickle into more habitual movement patterns so that they can be updated and become more pleasurable and expressive.

One’s own duty (dharma) done imperfectly is better than another’s dharma done perfectly. Death in doing one’s true dharma is better. Doing another’s dharma invites great danger. As we realize to a greater extent each day how crucial it is for us to show up and be a part of the change we want to see in this world, we also see how certain practices fit in our lives, while others become less relevant.

On days like today, I’m glad that I have a lot of alternatives for my yoga practices. When times are rough, certain kinds of meditation are more helpful than others for me. Today a heartfelt visualization was compelling enough to keep my on my cushion for long enough to put a bit of space between me and total reactivity. ;) Once we have practiced for many many years we can be more honest with ourselves about what’s doable on any given day. We can discard the idealism and enjoy the perfection of our imperfection and lack of accomplishment, which is a great accomplishment.
